Skordas Konstantinos, Professor

Subject: Environmental Geochemistry.

Konstantinos Skordas is a Professor in Environmental Geochemistry at the Department of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment, school of Agricultural Sciences in the University of Thessaly. His undergraduate studies were completed at the Department of Geological Sciences in the University of Urbino, Italy. He received his doctorate at the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment in the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (E.K.P.A.). He has worked for a number of years as a Geologist Environmental researcher and has drafted a large number of geological, geochemical, petrographic and environmental studies. He has taken part in 15 research projects funded by European, national and private funds. He has participated in several conferences-symposiums-workshops, many of which he has organized. He is a regular member in 7 scientific societies-chambers-associations. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as Environmental Geochemistry, Geochemistry, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Pollution and Coastal Geomorphology. Throughout his academic career, he has supervised and guided the preparation of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral theses. The main part of his research activity concerns environmental geochemical research and the pollution of waters, sediments and soils, by metals and metalloids. He has also researched the accumulation of metals and metalloids in aquatic organisms and the quality of surface and underground waters as well as their salinization. He has published many scientific articles in international journals and scientific conferences and is a reviewer in 10 international scientific journals, as well as in 3 International Conferences. He is a Hellenic State Scholarship Foundation assessor. He was one of the main contributors to the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece for the certification of the geotechnical profession. He has represented and still represents the Geotechnical Chamber in many professional bodies. He was served as the president of the Geotechnical Chamber, in Central Greece Branch, from which he was awarded for his valuable and long-term contribution to the geotechnical industry.
